Back to My Roots – Outdoor Maternity Sessions & A Glimpse into Kirra & Dave’s Story

When I first began my photography journey back in 2007, I started as an outdoor, natural light portrait photographer. I dabbled in weddings from time to time, but my heart was always drawn to family photography—capturing connection, love, and life as it naturally unfolded under open skies.

These days, my focus has become more refined. I now specialise in maternity, newborn, and family portraiture, with most of my newborn work taking place in my purpose-built studio. But every time I step outdoors with a beautiful family or glowing mum-to-be, I’m reminded of where it all began—and just how much I still adore it.

Lately, I’ve been incredibly blessed to capture more maternity sessions outdoors, and it has been so creatively fulfilling. There’s something magical about working with natural light, movement, and the ever-changing backdrop of the Hunter Valley. It’s freeing, inspiring, and honest—just like the stories I love to tell.

Yesterday evening, I met with the gorgeous Kirra and Dave, who are expecting their first baby in mid-December! We spent a relaxed and joy-filled afternoon capturing Kirra’s beautiful bump, surrounded by golden light and a whole lot of laughter. Their connection, their anticipation—it was so special to witness and document.

I’m already counting down the weeks until I get to meet and photograph their precious little one.

Whether it’s in the studio or out under the wide open sky, I’m so grateful for every family that invites me to be part of their journey.
